Author Description A graduate of Groton, Frederick Lewis Allen graduated from Harvard in 1912 and earned his master's from there in 1913. Allen was assistant and associate editor of <i>Harper's Magazine</i> for eighteen years, then the magazine's sixth editor in chief from 1941 until shortly before his death. He was also known for a series of contemporary histories that were published during a period of growing interest in the subject among the reading public.
